R.I.P MTG Booster

Hi folks,

Today is a very sad day for MTG Booster, AweDroid and all of you that have enjoyed playing MTG Booster in the past 2 years. Google has removed our app from Google Play because of alleged copyright infringement. Magic is Wizards of the Coast’s intellectual property and they have decided to take legal actions and have MTG Booster removed from Google Play.

We hope that in the past 2 years we have attracted new players to Magic, made bus commutes more enjoyable and hopefully also helped some players win a FNM draft. Nevertheless if Wizards think we are hurting their business, there is little we can do. After all, we have developed and maintained this app just for fun and do not have the time, money and will to seek legal advice. Unless of course any of you guys can help us with legal...

Thanks to all of you that have supported us in these past 2 years. It’s been a lot of fun. Take care!

  1. I was going crazy trying to find out what happened thanks for posting about it. It sucks this is right when the new set came out I use this at work all the time to practice seeing the cards and drafting for when I draft at local shops. Wizards never seems to realize that apps like this actually help them make money

  3. Sad that you guys were put down. But couldn't you guys put the apk file on another website? So that we can get updates and other players can download your app? I know of a couple people that post their apps on websites. And you can just post links for us.

  4. Thanks guys for your support and your ideas of how we could work around our playstore ban. Still, you have to please understand one major point: We've been doing this just for fun and even if there is only a remote possibility to get into real trouble (lawsuit), it's not worth the risk for us to anger a multimillion corporation like Wizards. Honestly, if there was any way we could be 100% sure to not get into legal trouble, we'd be delighted to continue. By the way, we already approached Wizards a few years ago when we started, just to understand what type of app and content they would "tolerate", but they told us quite clearly that they have zero interest in any type of collaboration with anyone.

  5. Can you still release the packs on any 3rd party site?

  6. Hey Ian, that's very unlikely for the reasons above. We really don't want to get in any trouble.

  7. How about as a torrent? The files are downloaded from other users and quite difficult (not sure, but I believe impossible) to trace back to the maker.
